All of us at the Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) were very proud to see that four of the winners at the Scottish Edge and Young Edge Awards are young businesses who are, or have been, supported by SIE.
The winners were: Victoria Hamilton, VHInnovation Ltd (winning £6,500); Michael Corrigan & David Kellock, Coolside/Trtl (£10,000); Chitresh Sharma & Louis Schena, Swipii (£20,000); Christopher McCann, Snap40 (£40,000).
Victoria and Christopher were each winners of the Young Innovators Challenge in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Michael and David brought their idea to SIE’s Bootcamp in 2010 and have gone on to great success, even appearing on BBC Two’s ‘The Entrepreneurs’ and STV’s Riverside Glasgow. Finally, Chitresh & Louis won the top prize in the New Ventures Competition in 2014.
Commenting on their achievements, Fiona Godsman, CEO of SIE, said: “It’s wonderful to see the innovative ideas of Scotland’s students becoming a reality, with the help of SIE. There is no doubt that SIE’s national competitions, open to students and recent graduates from all of Scotland’s universities and colleges, and the associated ongoing business support, provide a fantastic springboard for young entrepreneurs, facilitating further success. ”
SIE provides free business support and advice to students and graduates (up to 2 years) at Scottish universities and colleges as part of a national programme of workshops, activities, and annual competitions such as the Young Innovators Challenge, New Ventures Competition.
