Converge Challenge success for creative SIE Entrepreneurs

SIE Entrepreneurs excelled last night at the finals of the 2019 Converge Challenge, walking away with both the top prize and the runner up position in the Creative Challenge category, for two cleverly disruptive projects that bring cutting edge technology to long-established industries.

‘Architect-turned-entrepreneur’ Pooja Katara took the top prize with SENSEcity – a range of beautifully immersive AR walking tour guidebooks, bringing to life stories from a city’s past. Pooja won £47,000 in equity-free cash and in-kind support.

Runner up was Marwa Ebrahim, also of Glasgow School of Art, for Atypical Cosmetics – bespoke skincare solutions and beauty products for people with allergies through AI-powered customisation technology. Marwa won £21,000 in equity-free cash and in-kind support.

Both Pooja’s and Marwa’s projects are joint ventures between the University of Glasgow and The Glasgow School of Art, demonstrating, once again, the power of collaboration.

The long-awaited finals were held last night against the stunning backdrop of the V&A Dundee. It was an appropriate setting for the event, which showcased the cutting edge innovations being developed by some of Scotland’s brightest young entrepreneurs.

“As ever, Converge has produced exceptional winners and finalists this year. Many congratulations to them all. What we have seen again this year is the incredible collective talent of our Universities to create transformative, game-changing innovations that have the power to change people’s lives for the better. From disrupting the healthcare market to novel, low cost solar energy collector, Scotland’s Universities have set a new bar for innovation.”
