Competition Judging Day 2014

The finalists for our Fresh Ideas Competition and New Ventures Competition assembled in Edinburgh on Saturday 1st March for Judging Day!

Judging kicked off bright and early at 09:30 at The Melting Pot in central Edinburgh and continued on until late in the afternoon, when the judging panels made the final decisions. Five Fresh Ideas winners will pocket £500, and the overall winner of New Ventures will win £10,000 courtesy of our competition sponsor, the Bank of Scotland. (The second and third prize winners will receive  £5,000 and £1,000 respectively).

Pitching to a panel of judges can be an intimidating experience, but our judges are much friendlier than you might have seen in Dragons Den. The training and help the finalists received from Start-Up Day earlier this year meant that they were well prepared, and the judges were extremely impressed at the high standard of both the final entries themselves and the pitching skills of the finalists.

The finalists have a tense couple of weeks ahead as they won’t find out if they’ve won until the winners are announced on-stage at the SIE Student Enterprise Summit in Edinburgh on March 19th. (Get your tickets here!).

We’d like to thank our fantastic judges for giving up their time to help out and we’re looking forward to announcing the winners!
