We were delighted to host a special Parliamentary Reception last night (23rd October) at Holyrood celebrating Scotland’s Innovate Students.
The evening opened with a short speech from the event sponsor, Gillian Martin MSP, who welcomed around 150 guests and exhibitors. There was an exhibition from some of SIE’s alumni, showcasing their innovative ideas. From virtual reality programmes (Pocket Sized Hands), to haute couture (Lorn Jean). E-health solutions (Cognihealth) to sustainable furniture (SofaForLife) and innovative learning tools (Colour Academy); the showcase represented the variety of start-ups SIE are proudly supporting through their entrepreneurial journey in the enterprise ecosystem in Scotland.
Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Trade, Investment and Innovation emphasised the importance of innovative thinking in education during his address to the room.
We also presented the winners of the Scottish Innovative Student Awards with certificates and trophies. They are:
- Emmanuel Chibudike Eke, Robert Gordon University
- Saskia Goeres, Glasgow School of Art
- Ross McIntosh, Glasgow School of Art
- Drew Murray, University of Aberdeen
- Laura Emily Veitch, University of Strathclyde
The Gold certificate recognises that participants have demonstrated highly innovative mindsets and an intent to continue to innovate through further studies and/or product ideas with commercial potential. They will be provided with ongoing, relevant support from SIE and Scotland’s Innovation Centres (CENSIS, Data Lab & Digital Health and Care Insitute) to fulfil this potential.
