Saturday marked the culmination of months of work for our Fresh Ideas finalists, as they delivered their final pitches to our panel of judges. These hand-selected contenders made it through early elimination rounds and further distinguished themselves with their written submissions following February’s Exploration Day – but nothing compares to pitching face to face.
Our judging panel comprised Neil Gibson of the Big Partnership, Martina Zupan of Alterwaste, Lindsey McArthur from Santander, and David Murray from Marks & Clerk. Their diverse backgrounds in marketing, entrepreneurship, finance and patent law gave them an expert overview of the opportunities and pitfalls that could lie ahead of these new enterprises, and finalists were challenged to impress each of them with confidence, foresight and polished presentation skills. Everything came down to the 20 minute pitch, and the teams delivered in spectacular fashion!
Now it’s over to the judges to make some difficult decisions. With the consistently high quality of pitches throughout the day, narrowing down the finalists to pick the ultimate winners is a daunting task – but somebody had to come out on top! To find out who had the edge on Saturday, the teams will now have to wait until the SIE Awards Dinner at the end of this month, where the finalists will gather one more time and the grand prize winners will finally be announced.
Good luck everybody!
