Members of the SIE Entrepreneurs group from all across Scotland took time out of their busy schedules last week to join SIE at our two-day Decelerator retreat on the peaceful shores of Loch Lomond. With the full facilities of the Ardoch estate at our disposal and a stunning panorama of the Scottish landscape, it was the perfect place for attendees to escape the stress of startup life and remind themselves of the big picture.
Speakers included Ross Anderson, Jamie Jefferson, Norma Corlette, and SIE’s own Jonathan Tait and Ann Davidson, sharing personal insight and immersive workshops designed to help participants focus on their own mindsets, strengths and goals.
With periods of reflection built into the schedule, attendees were encouraged to walk the grounds, socialise, ask questions and develop new bonds with their fellow entrepreneurs. Beautiful late afternoon sun on Thursday even provided the opportunity to break out the table tennis before dinner!
As many of those on the retreat will attest, there is no substitute for the support of your peers. We were delighted to see those whose businesses have grown and developed over the past few years share their experience with entrepreneurs embarking for the first time.
Entrepreneurship can be a high-pressure and often lonely journey, but the atmosphere of motivation, friendship and fun over the course of the Decelerator was a powerful reminder of the strength of the Scottish start-up community. We already look forward to doing it again next year!
