Speakers Announced for the 2020 SIE Awards Dinner

March has arrived and with it SIE is counting down to our annual Awards Dinner taking place in Glasgow on March 25th.

The SIE Awards Dinner is an exclusive event for SIE’s newest entrepreneurs and our supporters and partners in the community celebrating Scotland’s entrepreneurial student talent. It will showcase the finalists of our Fresh Ideas competition with the winners being announced and receiving their prizes on stage.

Speaking during the evening are two SIE alumni: Rebecca Pick (Pick Protection) and Yanik Nyberg (Seawater Solutions).

Rebecca Pick, Founder & Managing Director of Pick Protection
Pick Protection’s mission is to use leading technology to make the world a safer place. The inspiration for the company came to CEO Rebecca Pick when her neighbour was attacked and nobody came to help. It was initially founded as a company devising innovative personal attack alarms.
Following Rebecca winning SIE’s Young Innovators Challenge in 2014, she has gone on to winning a number of high profile enterprise competitions such as Converge Challenge, Santander Universities Entrepreneurship Award and securing millions of pounds worth of investment. Today Pick Protection provides safety to thousands of lone workers and ‘at risk employees’ from various industry sectors.

Yanik Nyberg, Founder and Director of Seawater Solutions
Seawater Solutions turns coastal farmland in Scotland into artificial saltmarsh ecosystems where they grow saline vegetables, such as Samphire, using seawater, while protecting Scotland’s coastline and promoting climate resilience.

Amongst the numerous awards that Yanik has won throughout the past couple of years, are SIE’s I’m an Innovator and Fresh Ideas competitions, Shell Livewire and Scottish Edge. Currently Seawater Solutions are running two seawater farms in Vietnam, and Scotland (where they are currently collecting the debut harvest of saline vegetables from the Ayrshire coast).

The event is a highlight on the Scottish entrepreneurial calendar and a great opportunity to meet some of Scotland’s freshest up and coming new talent.
