Summer Festival of Innovation gets underway!

The Festival of Innovation starts today and will run all summer, celebrating ideas, vision and creativity!

Why run a festival? The past few months of the COVID-19 pandemic have been challenging for us all, not least for the young people at university or college planning for their future amid a lot of uncertainty.

At SIE, our mission is to help students develop the innovation and entrepreneurial mindsets they need to become the innovators and global leaders of the future.

Now, more than ever, we need to inspire students to create a better future for themselves. This summer, therefore, we are running the Festival of Innovation, which includes awards talks, innovation challenges, competitions and a showcase event at the end of the summer.

Our Student Innovation Challenge is now open for entries and wants students to imagine the future of learning with cash prizes up for grabs. They can also enter Fresh Ideas, which will continue to take entries for innovative ideas throughout the festival.

The first two recipients of our Inspiration Innovator Awards are Rebecca Pick (University of Strathclyde, 2011-15) and Susanne Mitschke (University of Glasgow, 2014-15), who spoke to us about their own vision of the future. We will be announcing more awards winners, and sharing their insights, throughout the summer.

Journalist and broadcaster Quentin Cooper will present a weekly series of live video interviews with some of Scotland’s best young entrepreneurs. These will kick off from July 23rd and we’ll be announcing more details very soon!

How can your university or college get involved?

SIE wants to celebrate and support the whole tertiary education sector during this challenging time. We would therefore welcome suggestions from university and college staff, especially those involved in enterprise, careers and student support activities, who would be interested having their own events recognised as part of the Festival, or who would like to contribute new activities.

We are also keen to support student associations and societies, who may wish to get their students involved over the summer.

A full festival branding pack and support will be available. If you would like to discuss your own festival event, get in touch at:
