What data we collect and why

Our legal basis for processing personal data

Personal data, or personal information, means any information about an individual from which that person can be identified. It does not include data where the identity has been removed (anonymous data). SIE has several legal bases for processing your data.

  1. Performance of a contract
    In order to receive the right support from SIE we need to have enough information about your requirements. You could provide this information when you enter an SIE business ideas competition, attend an SIE event, or have a meeting with a business advisor.
  2. Consent
    Where we process your data for the purposes of providing news and information on opportunities, it will be based on consent where you will have opted in to receive communications. You may withdraw this consent at any time.
  3. Legitimate interests
    We also process data for the purposes of research and development, and to demonstrate the long term impact of enterprise education and support.

 

The information we collect

We collect the information we need in order to provide the right service for you. The information may be supplied when you:

  • Enter an SIE competition
  • Attend an SIE event
  • Meet with an SIE advisor or member of the education team
  • Participate in SIE research

The information may include, but is not limited to:

  • Contact information
  • Information about your idea (where applicable) or requirements
  • Your subject of study
  • Where you are currently studying /studied
  • When you will be graduating / graduated


Information from Other Sources
In order to help us demonstrate the long term impact of early support we may supplement your data with information in the public domain about additional competition wins, sources of funding, and business developments.

 

If you fail to provide personal information
Depending on what you have requested, failing to provide correct personal information may result in you not receiving the right support. In the case of SIE competitions, we may not be able to contact you to advise you your idea has progressed to the next stage, which would mean the spot going to another entrant. You can have your personal information updated, for example if you move or change your mobile number or email address, by contacting info@sie.ac.uk.
